Responsive Home Visitation (Early Head Start Trainings Only)
A PITC Training Session
Format: 3 hour session, 30-40 participants, lecture, video, discussion.
Included in trainings to Early Head Start staff and other programs using home-based models to work with low-income families. This session addresses some of the issues faced by the home visitor when working with families in their own homes, with special emphasis on modeling and supporting the parent's responsiveness and bonding with the infant or toddler. Concepts discussed are:

· Family-centered philosophy
· A responsive approach to home visits
· The centrality of the parent/child relationship
· Cultural understanding and respect
· Supporting the use of community resources
· The development of a therapeutic alliance with family
· Enhancing sensitivity to parents' emotional needs.
