Introduction to Module I: Social-Emotional Growth & Socialization
A PITC Training Session
Format: Large group (80 - 120), 1 hour session; lecture, video, discussion.
Module I begins with a motivational introduction to the basic concepts of early social-emotional growth and socialization in the context of group care, with an emphasis on the development of a nurturing relationship between the infant and caregiver. The importance of responsive caregiving, individualizing care through an understanding of infant temperament, support for the critical role of family and culture, and stages of emotional development are discussed. The video, Getting in Tune: Creating Nurturing Relationships with Infants and Toddlers is shown, followed by whole group questions and answers.
