Discoveries of Infancy
A PITC Training Session
Format: 3 hour session, 30-40 participants, lecture, video, discussion.
Participants view the video "Discoveries of Infancy: Cognitive Development and Learning" one segment at a time. Each segment deals with one of the 'discoveries' identified by Jean Piaget, illustrated by scenes of infants and caregivers. Segments are interspersed with lecture, discussion, and active learning experiences to deepen participants' understanding of the material. Concepts presented include:

· The six discoveries: learning schemes, cause and effect, use of tools, object permanence, how objects fill space, imitation
· How the infant relates to early learning (integrated and holistic)
· Principles of facilitating early learning
