Description of Event
Each academy is a 3-day training that will build awareness and support utilization of new materials developed as part of California Department of Education (CDE) Infant Toddler Learning and Development System.
Academy I: Creating High Quality Infant/Toddler Programs
Will focus on issues of program development, best practices, and continuous improvement; it will cover information and strategies provided in CDE’s Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Program Guidelines, Program Guidelines DVDs, and Program Guidelines: The Workbook.
Academy II: Supporting Learning and Development of All Children in Infant/Toddler Programs
Will center on research-based information on all developmental domains, child assessment tools, and curriculum planning and implementation as presented in the California Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations and DVDs, Desired Results Developmental Profile - Infant/Toddler© (2010) (DRDP-IT© (2010)), the New Perspectives in Infant/Toddler Learning, Development, and Care DVD series, and the California Infant/Toddler Curriculum Framework.
In both academies, time will be devoted to showing how the various CDE Infant/Toddler Learning and Development System materials can be used in concert with each other and with the PITC DVD and print materials.
Application Due Date
First consideration will be given to applications received in the WestEd office by the due date. However, applications may be submitted at any time prior to the event date. Applications received after the due date will only be considered if spaces are still available or if cancellations occur.
Who May Apply
This event is designed to meet the needs of college faculty and infant/toddler program directors, including center-based directors and directors of large family child care programs. NOTE: Family child care programs must be licensed for 12-14 children in order to be considered.
Registration Fees: $1600 per Academy
Once the applicant receives notification of acceptance, a registration fee and enrollment form should be submitted to secure participation. This fee covers: tuition, corresponding CA Infant/Toddler Learning and Development resource materials (print and DVD), and supplementary reading materials; hotel accommodations (double-occupancy), and most meals (two dinners on your own). Single-occupancy rooms are available for an additional fee. Participants are responsible for all costs associated with transportation to and from the training site. Fellowships for qualified California Residents: $150 per Academy
Fellowship recipients will be responsible for a reduced $150 registration fee per academy. This quality improvement activity is made possible through the use of funds from the Federal Child Development Fund (CDF), Quality Improvement Activities, Infant/Toddler Earmark. Application
Only one application is required to attend both Academies. Academies can be attended out of sequence.
Review Criteria
WestEd, Center for Child and Family Studies, in consultation with the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, will review the applications.
Acceptance priority will be given to college faculty and individuals who are involved in infant/toddler program leadership such as: owners, directors, managers, supervisors, coordinators and curriculum specialists. Applicants who attend Academy I will have priority to attend Academy II. In addition, geographical considerations will apply.

Notification of Applicant Status
Once your application is received on-line, it will be considered for participation based on the established review criteria, and you will be contacted regarding status of your application a month after the application due date.
Cancellation Policy
Once enrolled, you will be charged $150 cancellation fee for CA fellowship participants or $1600 for for-fee participants if a cancellation occurs less than 30 days prior to the event date. Additional hotel cancellation charges may apply for cancellations less than 48 hours from event date.
