Dear Graduates:

This February 21-23, 2018, we will be holding our Graduate Conference in Berkeley, California, at the DoubleTree Hilton hotel. We hope you can join us. We have a very exciting agenda this year. The theme of our conference is "Creating Space for a Compassionate Sense of Wonder, Courage, Humility and Love." The conference will focus on our social responsibility as a PITC community to create brave spaces for engaging in challenging dialogues with each other, with families and with teachers in service of social justice.

Highlights of the conference include presentations by Brian Arao, the co-author of the book chapter: “From Safe Spaces to Brave Spaces,” facilitated dialogue with Melanie Tervalon, a nationally and internationally renowned physician, educator, community activist and thought leader, and opportunities to learn from PITC faculty and staff about the latest PITC developments.

Time will be set aside for graduates to dialogue with the keynote speakers, and for the speakers to dialogue with each other.

We will have a special ceremony commemorating the life of Intisar Shareef, a long time PITC faculty member who passed away this past November. We will also have time for reflections from graduates and staff about personal and professional high points of their PITC journey. We are looking forward to seeing you. This is one of our favorite events, a great mix of learning and connection.

Warmly,

Ron Lally, Co-Director, Center for Child and Family Studies, WestEd

Peter Mangione, Co-Director, Center for Child and Family Studies, WestEd

Elita Amini Virmani, Director of Training, PITC, Center for Child and Family Studies, WestEd
