Information about the 2026 PITC Webinar Series
The California Department of Social Services, in collaboration with WestEd, is providing the webinar series, The California Framework for Infant–Toddler Learning and Development, on May 27, 2026, and June 3, 2026.
This two-session, no–cost webinar series will explore the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) Approach on Planning to Support Infant-Toddler Learning and Development in Group Care Settings.
Join PITC faculty Peter L. Mangione and Janis Keyser as they share their learning from more than 40 years of leadership in creating resources and professional learning opportunities for infant and toddler care educators that are grounded in responsive reflective practice and research.
This webinar series builds a connection between planning and individualization through ongoing reflection, observation, and documentation to support infant and toddler development in early care settings in three learning contexts: relationships and interactions, routines, and environment and materials.
The first webinar explores how care educators can be mindful as they care for infants and toddlers and utilize observation and documentation to make discoveries about each child’s self-directed learning.
The second webinar focuses on how care educators can deepen their use of the reflective planning cycle to recognize and extend a child’s meaning–making, both individually and with the child and family though sharing observation notes, photos, videos, and examples of the child’s creations. When families and care educators reflect together, family members offer insights into the children’s behavior, questions, interests, and ideas. When planning together with care educators, families can share their goals and priorities for their children, at home, in the care setting, and in the greater community.
