Discoveries of Infancy: Cognitive Development and Learning

Infants begin learning through simple sensorimotor experiences and move toward figuring things out in their heads. This video explores the constant quest for knowledge of infants and toddlers. It depicts six major kinds of discoveries children make in the first three years of life and offers guidelines on how to support early learning. Also included with this DVD is a DVD Booklet.

Getting In Tune: Creating Nurturing Relationships with Infants and Toddlers

This video presents the importance of responsive caregiving and explores a process for getting in tune with infants and toddlers in a child care setting. Trainer's Manual Module I: Social-Emotional Growth and Socialization, Second Edition

The Module I Trainer's Manual provides easy-to-follow guidelines for effectively presenting materials in the module. Annotated lesson plans outline adult learning activities, support materials, and video content. Handouts are also included. The second edition has been revised to include updated information and guidance on understanding and supporting infants’ and toddlers’ social-emotional development. A new section on infant mental health has been added. There is a strong emphasis on including children with disabilities or other special needs in infant/toddler care programs.

Health and safety information has been revised to align with current recommendations. J. Ron Lally

J. Ronald Lally, Ed.D., was one of the pioneers in the field of infant/toddler development. He received his doctorate in educational psychology with a focus on infancy from the University of Florida in 1968 and a postdoctoral certificate for infant testing from the Child Development Research Centre in London. While in Florida, he directed one of the first home-visiting programs for infants in the United States. For many years he was a professor at Syracuse University and chair of its Department of Child and Family Studies.
